Michael Whitaker and Viking (owned by Melissa Braybrooke) were pipped to the post by Germany’s Daniel Deusser out at the Rolex Grand Prix at Indoor Brabant in The Netherlands. Having lead for much of the jump-off Deusser bettered his time by just over a second, to take the win with third place going to Scott Brash and Hello Sanctos (owned by Lord and Lady Kirkham and Lord and Lady Harris). In an earlier class, the Audi Prijs, Scott had also secured a fourth placing aboard Hello Forever (owned by Lady Harris and Lady Kirkham).

Ben Maher secured a fourth placing in the Suncast 1.50m Jumper Classic yesterday after producing a great double clear round to head through to the jump-off with Jane Clark’s Sarena. The combination were over a second off the winning time of Paul O’Shea and Skara Glen’s Sienna.

Out on the Sunshine Tour it was a great weekend for Guy Williams as he took three wins. Getting things underway on Friday Guy posted his first win with Depardieu Van T Kiezelhof (owned by Lindsay Doran) in the Grand Prix 1.40m class before taking the win in the Grand Prix 1.50m with Casper de Muze. He completed a hat-trick on Saturday as he scooped the Small Tour Grand Prix 1.45m with Golddigger, just ahead of Belgium’s Gaëtan Decroix with John Whitaker (Castlefield Cristobal 21) taking third.

There were numerous British riders out in action including George Whitaker, Robert Bevis and Kayleigh Watts who all posted a number of good placings at the show.

Robert Smith took two first placings in the Medium Tour out on the Costa del Sol, with Evren Alam’s Candy Boy. GBR’s Anna Edwards took the Land Rover Big Tour class on Friday with Blazer B, with other top placings posted by Lara Whiteway over the weekend.

Vale View Equestrian Centre hosted the Para Dressage Winter Championships at the weekend, which saw an impressive line-up of athletes in attendance including four members of the London 2012 Paralympic squad. With the KBIS Qualifier taking place on Saturday there were first wins of the season for Emma Sheardown (Ia), Ricky Balshall (Ib), Natasha Baker (II), Heather Bennett (III) and Sophie Wells (IV).

UK Sport National Lottery funded World Class Development rider Natasha Adkinson secured a top placing in Sunday’s Open Championship class, with first placings also for Emma Sheardown, Jane Lishman (II), Nicky Greenhill (III) and Sophie Wells with her WEG silver medallist Valerius.

Eventing riders continued the season at the weekend with action packed competition taking place at Tweseldown (Hampshire), Oasby (Lincolnshire) and Poplar Park (Suffolk). A raft of riders at Oasby took to the arenas with an additional item of kit for the weekend – a red nose, in aid of Comic Relief.
