FEI European Championships, France
Some stunning performances from Great Britain’s equestrian athletes at the FEI Para-Equestrian Dressage European Championships saw the British Team retain their European title, and with it their unbeaten team record. Alongside the team title, there were five individual medals won in the Individual Championship classes.
Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials, Oxfordshire
Just days after returning as the highest placed British rider from the 2015 FEI European Eventing Championships in Scotland, Kitty King was once again at the head of the leader board for the GBR competitors at this weekend’s Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials. Riding Diane Bown, Jacqueline Owen and Samantha Wilson’s Ceylor LAN, Kitty added nothing to her dressage score of 44.4 penalties to take third place in the CCI3* class, fellow senior Championship squad member Gemma Tattersall and The Pebbles Syndicate’s Quicklook V were hot on their heels with just one penalty separating them as they took fourth place on a score of 45.4 penalties. The win went to the USA’s Clark Montgomery and Loughan Glen with a score of 33.8 penalties.
Le Mieux National Dressage Championships, Warwickshire
There were top results a-plenty for the UK Sport National Lottery funded World Class Podium and Podium Potential riders this weekend at the climax of the British Dressage summer season. Kicking things off on Thursday (17 September) Podium Potential athlete Alice Oppenheimer took a convincing win with Georgina Pole-Carew’s Tantoni Sir Soccrates in the Fairfax Saddles Prix St. George on a score of 75.08%. World Class Podium athlete Lara Griffith took third place on a score of 72.13% with Dr and Mrs Bechtolsheimer’s Kristjanm, with Becky Moody and Carinsio in second place on 73.58%.
Double European Gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin walked away with another title to her name as she was crowned the Grand Prix National Champion on Carl Hester and Anne Cohn’s Barolo with a score of 72.90%. Podium Potential rider Hayley Watson-Greaves put in a fabulous performance on her own WG Rubins Nite to take third place with a score of 70.68%, with Spencer Wilton and Julia Cournane’s Numberto claiming second place on 71.66%.
The final day of competition (Sunday 20 September) saw the Horse Health Grand Prix Freestyle Championship contested and another win for Charlotte Dujardin and Barolo on a score of 76.80%, Lara Griffith and Rubin Al Asad, owned by Dr and Mrs Bechtolssheimer, took second place with 75.65% and with just 0.47% separating them Hayley Watson-Greaves and WG Rubins Nite secured third place.
There were top results also for European team silver medallist Michael Eilberg with wins in the Equine Construction Advanced Medium Restricted Championships and the Saracen Horse Feeds Intermediate I Championship, for a full list of results click HERE.
CSI3* La Capelle, France
Wins in the Prix Toubin Clément and Prix Fonds Eperon classes at the French 3* show made for a successful week for British showjumper William Funnell. Following a clear first round on board his own and Mr Donal Barnwell’s Billy Congo, William moved forward to the jump-off round where another clear clinched victory in the 1.45m Prix Fonds Eperon class by just 0.03 seconds. The Prix Toubin Clément class saw a British one-two with William taking first place on Mrs J Slade’s Billy Angelo after a clear round in a time of 66.92 seconds, GB’s Matthew Sampson took second place on Kunio Takeda’s ROI, also with a clear round, stopping the clock in 67.95 seconds.
Producing the quickest clear round of the day in the Prix RG Transport class, Britain’s Guy Williams and his own Casper de Muze completed in a time of 54.73 seconds to beat off competition from the 45 starters and take home the class winnings.
