CSIO5* ROME, ITALY
Great Britain finished on top of the podium this weekend at the Rome leg of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup. The first point scoring opportunity for GB saw incredible rounds from the team as they finished with just one time penalty on the score board to claim the win ahead of The Netherlands on four penalties. UK Sport National Lottery funded World Class Development Programme rider Holly Gillott (her own and Graham Smith’s Dougie Douglas), Robert Whitaker (Clare Whitaker and Mandy Hall’s Catwalk IV), Michael Whitaker (Mrs Beverley Widdowson’s Cassionato) and John Whitaker (his own and his wife, Clare’s, Argtento) produced six clear jumping rounds between them to lift the Nations Cup trophy and take home maximum points.
NAF FIVE STAR SAUMUR COMPLET, FRANCE
A third place finish left Oliver Townend best of the Brits in the main CCI3* class this weekend with Mathieu Lemoine and Astier Nicolas, both for France, taking first and second place respectively. Partnering PJ Hegarty's Fenyas Elegance, the combination got off to a strong start in the dressage posting a score of 44.90 penalties, clear rounds in both the cross country and showjumping phases left nothing to add to their final score to finish just four penalties behind the class leader.
CSI3* BETHUNE, FRANCE
It was a British 1-2 in the 1.35m Against the Clock class this weekend, with Laura Renwick clinching the win ahead of UK Sport National Lottery funded World Class Development Programme rider Jessica Mendoza. Stopping the clock in a time of 58.90 seconds saw Laura with John and Marian Renwick’s bay mare Beluga finishing just 1.63 seconds ahead of fellow Brit Jessica with her mother’s, (Sarah Mendoza), 14 year old gelding Nuggets L’Amandour.
There was more British success across the weekend as Joe Whitaker took the spoils in the 1.45m class on his father, Steven, and Mrs Dawn Makin’s Lola V. Producing a double clear jumping round with a jump-off time of 43.31 seconds secured the win ahead of Sweden’s Erica Swartz and Conisha van de Hel, with further British placings for Laura Renwick and her own, Mr Renwick and JM Bleekman’s Bintang II. Laura also claimed first and third place in the 1.40 class on Beluga and her own and Mr Renwick’s MHS Washington respectively.
CSI2* ROOSENDAAL, NETHERLANDS
Britain’s James Billington took home numerous top placings at this weekend’s 2* Dutch show, including wins in two Youngster Tour classes on board the VDL Stud owned Doklahoma VDL. James also produced a first place finish on Celena VDL, owned by the VDL Stud, in the 1.35m Small Tour, with fellow Brit Joe Clee and Ludwig Criel’s Diablesse De Muze taking fourth place.
SOMERFORD PARK PREMIER LEAGUE
Michael Eilberg dominated at Somerford Park Premier League this weekend, notching up three first placings and one second over the two day Cheshire event. After a win with Der Designer in Saturday’s FEI Prix St George, Michael also took top spots with Woodlander Farouche in the Intermediare I and with Marakov in the Grand Prix Special.
Saturday saw Carl Hester take the win aboard Wanadoo, to take first place with 71.40% in the FEI Grand Prix class, finishing just ahead of Michael and Woodlander Dornroeschen.
Elsewhere at the show Gareth Hughes took first and third placings in the FEI Intermediare II class, with Excel Talent Programme rider Pippa Hutton nudging in to take second. Laura Tomlinson also had a good win with Duvals Capri Sonne Jr in the FEI Prix St George class on Friday after posting a 74.82% score whilst Phoebe Peters took first placings in Pony team and individual classes with SL Lucci, and Excel Talent Programme rider Erin Williams took first in the Junior test.
