As we near the end of another successful season of equestrian sport with added boosts for British bred horses, what better way than to celebrate this by recognising the top mares that produced the horses giving us all this success?
The nominations for the 2017 Horse & Hound Outstanding Mare Award are now open. The award is to be presented to the breeder or associate of the mare who, in the opinion of the relevant discipline and the Awards committee, has made the greatest contribution to British bred success.
A nominated mare may have had an outstanding competition career herself or have bred a dynasty of progeny that have gone on to succeed in sport, or both. If you think you know of a mare that has made a valuable contribution to British breeding – we’d like to know about her!
The award will be presented at the 21st Anniversary British Breeders Awards Celebratory Dinner, hosted and organised by the British Horse Foundation in London on 13 January 2018.

Mares do not need to be alive to be nominated. All mares nominated previously will need to be re nominated and past nominees are welcome to re submit their nominations, even if they didn’t make the shortlist in previous years
