Second clear round for Whitaker at Europeans

24th Aug 2017

Great Britain’s William Whitaker was on flying form today as he took to the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden, for the second day of the Longines FEI European Jumping Championships – the first day of the team competition and second individual qualifier.

With Ludwig Criel’s Utamaro d Ecaussines, the talented duo sailed over the course, designed by Louis Konickx, to record their second clear round of the championships, and stay on their score from Tuesday of 5.06 penalties.

Commenting afterwards William said: “It’s a tough course today, from the first to the last, it comes thick and fast. He gave me everything all the way round; now we just have to concentrate on tomorrow, and just keep doing what we’re doing. It’s always nice to get off to a good start; he’s an amazing horse, he always gives his best and he just jumped brilliant.”

William’s score of 5.06 sees him sitting in 17th place at the end of today’s competition. As one of the top 50 competitors, he now progresses to tomorrow’s third individual qualification round.

The British senior teams are supported by the BEF’s UK Sport National Lottery funded World Class Programme.
