Weekend Round-Up: 06.04.2014

Our British riders have enjoyed more success over the weekend, with top results from across Europe in showjumping, eventing and para-equestrian dressage. 

PARA – EQUESTRIAN DRESSAGE
CPDEI3*, DEAUVILLE, FRANCE

Our British riders enjoyed great success during their first international competition of 2014 at the CPEDI3* in Deauville, France. The Nations Cup team of Natasha Baker (Cabral), Ricky Balshaw (LJT Engaards Solitaire), Deborah Criddle (LJT Akilles) and Sophie Wells (Valerius), finished on an overall winning score of 146.633 penalties to give them a 5.301 penalty advantage ahead of The Netherlands who finished in second place, with France in third.

Away from the team event, Lee Pearson (Zion) grade Ib, Natasha Baker, grade II, and Sophie Wells, grade IV, all won the Freestyle and Individual Championship competitions for their respective grades, whilst Ricky placed second behind team mate Lee in both grade Ib classes. Deborah Criddle also picked up a second placing in the grade III Freestyle on a score of 73.850%.

SHOWJUMPING
OLIVA VI, SPAIN

Britain’s Tim Stockdale took home third place in the CSI3* 1m50 Oliva VI Grand Prix Gold Tour on board Mrs Marjorie Glasgow, Mrs Laura Stockdale and Fresh Direct’s Fresh Direct The Toymaker. A double clear in a time of 47.41seconds was good enough to secure the combination third just behind German riders Wulschner and Tebbel.

UK Sport lottery funded World Class Development Programme rider Chloe Aston produced two top five places at the Spanish show, taking fourth in the CSI3* 1m30 Gold Tour Speed Class on Ben Beevers’ Enya van de Wateringhoeve, following this up with a second place on Mrs Joanne Aston’s Amigo T in the 1m40 Gold Tour Table C. Fellow World Class Development Programme rider Abigail Newbery partnered Sharifa Al Homaizi and Tony Newbery’s Olympia III to a second place in the CSI1* Silver Tour Grand Prix behind Ireland’s Gavin Harley.

CSI3* HARDLOT, FRANCE

British riders came home from the French CSI3* show with a host of top results, Laura Renwick took two wins on board Mr John Renwick and Mrs Marian Renwick’s Beluga II. A clear in a time of 61.94seconds saw the quick combination take the win by nearly five seconds in the 1m40 Prix Swisslife class, ahead of fellow Brit and UK Sport lottery funded World Class Development Programme rider Louise Saywell and Lady P Kirkman and Lady P Harris’ Hello Whisky Mac IV.

Backing up their earlier win Laura and Beluga II produced another very fast clear round in the 1m40 Prix Gamm Vert to claim the win ahead of Britain’s second placed Nicole Pavitt on Mrs Sandra Pavitts Amaryllis Van De Heffink. Laura rounded off her results in the Prix Allobébé class with Mr and Mrs Renwick’s Bingtang II, where a quick double clear saw the combination pick up third place behind French winner Reynald Angot and second placed 2013 European team gold medallist William Funnell on Mrs Carol Toliver’s Billy Balou.

CSI3* AREZZO III, ITALY

UK Sport lottery funded World Class Development Programme riders Joe Clayton and Jessica Mendoza claimed a range of good results over the course of the Italian show in Arezzo. West Yorkshire’s Clayton picked up no less than seven top ten results including a win in the 1m40 Gold Tour on Mr Michael Whitaker’s Balibu. Wiltshire based Mendoza piloted her mother’s (Sarah Mendoza) and T&I Nv’s Falballa de Messitert to fourth place in the 1m40 Gold Tour.

EVENTING
BELTON INTERNATIONAL HORSE TRIALS, GRANTHAM

Belton International Horse Trials hosted its popular event this weekend which saw many British riders getting in their final run ahead of the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.

Mary King with Miss Janette Chinn and Mr Edwin & Mrs Sue Davies’ Imperial Cavalier, were the best of the Brits in the Lycetts Grantham Cup CIC3* claiming third behind second placed Vittoria Panizzon (Italy) and winner Mark Todd (New Zealand).  London 2012 Olympic team silver medallist, Nicola Wilson, took seventh place in the competitive CIC3* on the ten year old Annie Clover, owned by Mary and Barry Tweddle.
