CSI3* Glock Horse Performance Centre, Austria
UK Sport National Lottery funded World Class Development Programme rider, William Whitaker, claimed the Glock’s CSI3* Grand Prix on Sunday at the Austrian show. Riding Elisan AB’s dark bay gelding, Fandango, William produced a clear first round to head into the jump-off with five other combinations.
Stopping the clock in a time of 35.23 seconds saw the pair clinch the win ahead of Turkey’s Omer Karaevli by just 0.34 seconds. William’s Uncle, John Whitaker, secured fifth place aboard Clare Whitaker’s Argento. Friday saw a first placing for John and Argento in the Glocks’ Perfection Tour, 1.50m class, whilst his son Robert finished fourth aboard USA Today, owned by Mandy Hall and Clare Whitaker.
Reem Acra World Cup Dressage Qualifier, Amsterdam
It was yet another successful outing for Great Britain’s talented dressage duo of Charlotte Duajrdin and Valegro, owned by Carl Hester, Roly Luard and Ann Barrott, this weekend as they headed to their first competition of the 2015 season. Producing a lovely test during Friday’s Grand Prix, they took the win with 86.14%, with second place going to the hosts Danielle Heijkoop on 78.32%.
During Saturday’s Freestyle, the pair again demonstrated their world class standing, posting a huge score of 93.9% - to sit just 0.4 off of their December World Record score.
Commenting afterwards to FEI TV, Charlotte said; “I was really happy with today’s performance. I feel much more with it today; obviously yesterday I felt really tired, I was probably still getting over my jet-lag and I had a good sleep last night and today I feel really good. I was up for it, ready for it, and the music I did is my old music and I love riding to it and thought I’d go out and have a blast round. Valegro’s always on form thankfully and we really, really enjoyed it.”
CSI4* Showjumping, Amsterdam
Michael Whitaker with Emilie Machon and Michael Potter’s Valentin R took a fifth placing during the Mercedes-Benz Prijs 1.45m class on Friday. With nineteen riders heading into the second round, Michael’s time of 27.05, was just 2.88 seconds behind first placed Karim Elzoghby.
In Saturday’s Amsterdam RAI Six Bar competition, Michael aboard Velini owned by Simon Davies, took second place after a close third round jump-off, with the hosts’ Michel Hendrix (Apollo) taking the win, and Ireland’s Denis Lynch (Quote Zavaan) taking third.
Winter Equestrian Festival CSI5*, Wellington, Florida
Week four of the Winter Equestrian Festival out in Florida saw Ben Maher take a superb second placing in the FEI World Cup CSI5*-W Grand Prix. Riding Diva II, owned by Tatiana Korsakova, the duo were one of ten combinations to head into a second round jump-off; a second clear round (one of only two in the competition) by the talented combination saw them finish just behind France’s Marie Hecart and Myself De Breve.
Mijas CSI2* Grand Prix, Spain
Laura Renwick posted a first placing out at the Costa del Sol tour on Sunday. Partnering Beluga, owned by John & Marian Renwick, Laura took the win after posting a quick time in the twelve-rider jump-off, finishing just over 2.5 seconds quicker than Portugal’s Mario Wilson Fernandes, whilst Great Britain’s Steven Franks took third on Abdul Aziz.
Oliva CSI2*, Spain
William Funnell enjoyed numerous good placings ou in Oliva out on the Gold tour this weekend, with Billy Cool, Billy Olive and Billy Onslow, owned by the The Billy Stud. With a third place finish aboard Billy Cool in the 1.40m Two Phase class on Friday, William’s wife, eventer Pippa Funnell notched up a seventh placing aboard Billy Grand, owned by Julie Slade, in Sunday’s Grand Prix, after taking an unfortunate two poles in the jump-off.
Britain’s Abigail Newbury and Laura Johnson also recorded some good placings in the Oliva Silver Tour.
