Another non-stop weekend for our British Showjumpers, as consistent results continue to roll in on the International stage. Alongside our top British riders success, the UK Sport funded World Class Development riders & Sport England funded BEF Excel Talent Programme riders have been dominating the upper placing’s across Europe this weekend.
CSI4* GRAND PRIX, FTI WEF, WELLINGTON, FLORIDA
Clear rounds proved elusive this weekend in Wellington, as just three combinations managed to post a double clear in the CSI4* Grand Prix. Amongst those clears were British riders Scott Brash and Ben Maher, world number one Scott, finished Ursula XII’s Florida season in style stopping the clock on a time of 41.11 seconds, enough to take second place. Posting a time of 41.31 seconds saw the 2013 number one FEI World Ranked Horse/Rider combination; Ben Maher and Cella, slot in just behind in third place. Topping the class with a very quick double clear was USA rider Audrey Coulter riding Acorte.
€50,000 VEJER DE LA FRONTERA CSI3* GRAND PRIX, SPAIN
A foot perfect round and very quick jump off time gave John Whitaker more than a two second advantage over home rider Eduardo Alvarez Aznar on Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margo at the Spanish show. A time of 40.03 seconds put John and his wife’s (Clare) stallion Argento out in first place in the Vejer De La Frontera CSI3* Grand Prix.
€24,000 CSI2* GRAND PRIX LIER, BELGIUM
Lier in Belgium played host to a British one-two this weekend as UK Sport Funded World Class Development riders Sam Hutton from Surrey and Wiltshire’s Jessica Mendoza took the top spots in the CSI2* Grand Prix. Sam produced the only double clear of the class riding Heidi du Ruisseau Z in a time of 35.36 seconds. Whilst Jessica, on board Spirit T, stopped the clock in a time of 34.55, beating Sam’s winning time, but had to settle for second place after adding four faults to their score. Sam also finished 3rd and 4th in the 1.35 and 1.30M classes with new ride 8 year old grey gelding Anssiso Z, jointly owned by Jan Tops and Dutch international rider Eric Van de Vleuten.
Following good results on both horses Sam had this to say about his weekend; "Heidi is really on form, but I knew with Jess behind me I had to be fast, this is Heidi's 2nd GP win in less than a month and I am looking forward to taking her to Vidauban (South of France) in a couple of weeks" said Sam.
Of his new partnership Sam commented; "This was a bonus, it was our first international show together, he was a bit nervous the first day, but soon settled down to produce 2 perfect double clears and was placed in both his classes. We will now be moving him up a level and I have great hopes for him".
€1000 CSI2* OLIVA BRONZE TOUR GRAND PRIX, OLIVA, SPAIN
Sport England funded BEF Excel Talent Programme rider Amy Inglis claimed second place just behind Britain’s Daniel McGlynn who took the win on Atletico Van D’abelendreef. Sussex based rider Amy piloted her mother’s (Claire) 12 year old gelding Cupido vant Schuurke ahead of third placed home rider Enrique Porta Bereciartua in the €1000 CSI2* Oliva Bronze Tour Grand Prix.
