Weekend Round-Up: 8 June 2014

Bramham International Horse Trials, West Yorkshire

This weekend 2013 European Championship team mates Izzy Taylor (Di Davies, Irene Graham, Anita Dalton’s Orlando) and William Fox-Pitt (Lady Best and Jane Keir’s Freddie Mac) both put in impressive performances in the Equi-Trek CCI3*. Izzy claimed second place on the chestnut gelding Orlando (behind Ireland’s Aoife Clarke), scoring 46.9 penalties ahead of William’s third placed score of 47.8 penalties. Slotting into fourth place was London 2012 Olympic silver medallist Nicola Wilson riding Mary and Barry Tweddle’s, Annie Clover, while UK Sport lottery funded World Class Development Programme rider Jodie Amos picked up fifth place on Nicola Stocker’s and her own, Wise Crack.

Fox-Pitt continued his good form by claiming first place in the British Equestrian Trade Association CIC3* on Christopher Stone’s stallion, Chilli Morning, the combination completed on a score of just 37.1 penalties, taking a 9.1 penalty victory over Great Britain’s Dee Hanky and Chequers Playboy.

The Bishop Burton College CCI3* Under 25 section was won by Sport England funded BEF Excel Talent Programme rider Tom Jackson. Adding just eight time penalties from the cross country phase and eight faults from the showjumping, Tom took the win on Ian and Sara Jackson’s and his own 11 year old gelding Waltham Fiddlers Find.

CSI5* Longines Global Champions Tour, Shanghai, China

For the first time in the Longines Global Champions Tour eight year history Shanghai, China, played host to the five star competition (6 – 8 June 2014). Michael Whitaker produced two top ten results at the five star show, taking fifth place on Mrs B Mertens and his own, Amai, in the 1.50m class and followed this up with a seventh placing in the 1.45/1.50m class on Miss Emilie Machon and Michael Potter’s, Valentin R.

CSI5* Longines Athina Onassis, France

World number two, Ben Maher, picked up good placings at the international 5* show over the weekend, taking fifth place on Miss Liz Edgar’s nine year old mare, Diva II in the Accumulator with Joker class. Earlier in the week Ben posted a sixth place finish in the Prix Ville de Ramatuelle on the Stone Ridge Farm LLC owned mare, Wings Sublime.

CSI3* Outdoor Gelderland, The Netherlands

This weekend saw World Class Development Programme rider, Sam Hutton, produce a third place finish on board the E.A.R.L. Chateaux Bacon owned gelding Sam De Bacon in the CCV Prijs, the combination then followed this up with a sixth place in the DroomParken Prijs CSI3*. Tim Gredley took top honours in the Anemone Horse Trucks Prijs class on Omelli, owned by the Unex Competition Yard Ltd.
