Youth Olympic Games 2014 - Day 2

14th Aug 2014

Thank you again to Corinne Bracken for providing us with her Nanjing blog, it is day two for the Team GB athletes in China at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games, the riders were drawn their horses for the competition and Jake got nominated for a very prestigious role!

14 AUGUST 2014

Hi Everyone!!

What a day!!

We watched all the horses trot up today for the vet and chose which ones we would like if we could choose!!  But we can’t so when the horse draw took place we waited in anticipation!! The horse Jake has is not what we would have chosen but we made friends with him in the stable and we ride him tomorrow for the first time!!

Then onto this evening. Team GB were invited to a reception at the Intercontinental Hotel. The invite was from the British Consul-General and was to welcome us to Nanjing and to promote the Best of British in China. it was an amazing reception which included the nomination result for the flag bearer at the opening ceremony. Federations nominate their athletes and then after arriving at the village the athletes vote for who they think should represent them at the opening ceremony. THEY VOTED FOR JAKE!!! Jake Saywell will carry the flag for Team GB  at the opening ceremony. This shows just how well Jake has bonded with the others here for them to give him their nomination.

Jake went on stage to a huge cheer from all, I felt very emotional!! This a huge honour for an athlete, and a great day for Equestrianism.

So it is now 11pm and we have a 5am start tomorrow so sorry but this will have to be it till tomorrow, watch this space for a report on Jakes horse!!
