Youth Olympic Games - Day 7

20th Aug 2014

Today will see the second round of the team competition for equestrian athletes out in Nanjing at the Youth Olympic Games, yesterday the European team got off to a flying start finishing round one with a score of zero and heading up the leader board!

Hi everyone

Today was a very long one!! As usual I went to the stables this morning to check on all the horses and make sure the legs had been iced and the horses walked. Also 1 of the horses needs to be lunged in the morning.

The course was great with plenty of questions. Built up to height with a normal time allowed and our first rider Mathias (ITA) went clear. Then this was followed by a clear from Michael (IRE). In this competition there are five riders with three scores to count. So two clears with three riders to go. Jake was next and his horse warmed up very well, however when he was going towards the first fence the horse started to shake his head and kicked the first fence out!! Jake kept his cool the whole way round and an unlucky 4 faults at fence nine left him on eight faults. Then came Filip (SWE) who achieved our goal by jumping a clear and leaving the team on zero faults overnight. Lisa (NED) went for a school as all the horses had to jump the first round.

We watched the videos to see where we needed to improve tomorrow and then headed for Gymnastics where Team GB won gold in the men’s all round individual!

Much more tomorrow, 11.30 pm now and I think its bed time,
