Suzanna got involved with horses from a young age and started eventing aged 13, training with international event rider Lucy Wiegersma. Competing at two star level, she was long-listed for the Young Rider European team in 2008.
Following an accident with a young horse in 2012, Suzanna received multiple injuries which included a crushed back, shoulder and pelvis as well as severe nerve damage which left her partially paralysed from the legs down with severe spasticity. Suzanna also experienced a head injury which has affected her vision and coordination. Two years later, she returned to the saddle and started competing in dressage and para-dressage.
Suzanna started working with Charlie and Pammy Hutton’s Abira in 2015, after initially training with Pammy from the age of 12, and they competed in their first para-dressage three star class together at Hartpury. In 2016, the pair became grade III (formerly grade II) champions at the Winter Championships and propelled them to their first international competition together later that year in Waregem. They were recognised for their achievements and were longlisted for the Rio Olympic Games. At the end of 2016, Suzanna was inducted onto the World Class Programme Podium Potential squad.
This year, Suzanna has enjoyed a number of fantastic results with Abira and LJT Enggaards Solitaire with first places in Deauville, Waregem and Hartpury. This year’s will see Suzanna make her championship team debut at the Europeans.
