Dr Sally Nicholson

Assistant Medical Officer

Sally is originally from Suffolk and her equestrian background is in Eventing. Sally completed her medical degree at Leeds Univeristy and qualified as a doctor in 2002. She then trained and qualified as a surgeon for three years before transferring her specialty to general practice.

Sally fulfilled her dream of combining work with her hobby in 2007 when she became the Medical Officer to the GB para-equestrian dressage squads; first travelling with the team to the Beijing Paralympics in 2008. Since then she has travelled as Team Doctor with the para and able-bodied teams to European Championships and World Equestrian Games. She also worked as a Gamesmaker at Greenwich for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Sally works across all the Olympic disciplines, providing support to the whole of the World Class Programme.

On the domestic side, she attends regular squad training sessions with the para-equestrian dressage and dressage squads, and provides Anti-doping Education for our Grooms. Sally gained her Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2012, and currently works as an NHS GP.
