FEI European Championships 2019: Team GBR Guide
The FEI European Championships 2019 brought together several equestrian disciplines, with Team GBR fielding squads across eventing, dressage, showjumping and para-equestrian dressage. The championships served as a major target in their own right and, in the Olympic disciplines, as part of the qualification pathway towards the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The British squads
In the build-up, British Equestrian named its teams across the disciplines. Three riders received their first call-up for the para-equestrian dressage European Championships, while the showjumping squad, including Olympic medallists, was selected with one eye on Tokyo qualification. World Equestrian Games medallists spearheaded a strong British dressage squad, and Team GBR named a talented line-up to defend its European eventing title.
Following the action
Coverage ran throughout the championships, with details published on where to watch and the television schedule for the event, alongside competition timetables and live results for each discipline. Daily round-ups tracked the competition as it unfolded, including a report from day two and the dressage Grand Prix, while rider blogs offered a first-hand perspective from day one of competition.
Among the supporting features, Performance Director Vikki Underwood set out what goes into preparing a squad for a European Championships, and guidance was published on the different ways supporters could follow and connect with the teams during the event. Background material on how each of the disciplines is competed and on Great Britain’s past results was also made available to help spectators follow the championships.
