Vaulters on form in Ermelo

6th May 2014

Britain’s vaulters enjoyed another successful weekend out at the CVI3* competition in Ermelo, The Netherlands this weekend (2-4 May 2014) with Joanne Eccles and Andrew McLachlan finishing top of their respective classes.

Joanne Eccles enjoyed another superb win in the individual female class, only two weeks after her winning performance in Saumur, France. Leading throughout the three round competition she took the win after posting an impressive score of 8.401, to finish just ahead of current European champion, Denmark’s Rikki Laumann. Joanne was competing with long-term partner WH Bentley, who has now represented GB at over fifty international competitions, and who celebrated his twentieth birthday at the weekend.

Lucy Phillips recorded a Personal Best in the technical test to take fourth in the class with Pitucelli, whilst Hannah Eccles (WH Bentley) performed a great freestyle routine to finish in seventh place. Helen Andernson produced three solid rounds aboard Tylers Kernal to finish eighteenth.

In the junior male CVI2*class it was Britain’s Andrew McLachlan who lead throughout. Producing a polished performance with Tylers Kernal, lunged by his mother Amanda McLachlan, Andrew took the win after posting a final score of 7.646, to finish just ahead of Mauritius’s Lambert Leclezio.

Andrew also placed fourth in the Senior Pas de Deux class, alongside Rebecca Norval. Aboard Tylers Kernal, again lunged by Amanda McLachlan, it was the pairs first outing at senior level, and was a great result in a competitive class.
The senior team, Julie Newell’s English Vaulting Squad, produced three good rounds to finish sixth, pulling up two places from the earlier compulsory round.

In the junior female class, the final rankings saw the Brits lying fourteenth (Rebecca Norval), eighteenth (Lisa Mercer), twenty-second (Izzy Kyle – a great result as she also competed on a borrowed horse) and twenty-sixth (Jessica Haynes). The results bode well for the future as all vaulters competed in Ermelo with new horses.
