My name is Ben Clark, and I am based at our own showjumping yard in Southampton, Hampshire. I have represented my country at many Nations Cup shows for Team GB in both Junior and Children on Horses teams and was lucky enough to go to the European Championships for Children in 2016, I hope to continue representing my country for the rest of my career with horses.

At our yard we have approximately 40 horses in, all ranging from amateur clients to International Showjumpers. In the main barn where mine and my sister’s horses are kept we have 13 horses which travel around Europe regularly to different international shows to compete. Recently we have just come back from Weirden, Netherlands where I was competing in the Junior Nations Cup teams which we won along with the rest of my team mates in a strong field of riders. This year my 12 year old sister was also selected on 2 Nations Cup teams for the Children’s where she had some good results. Also within the last year we have won the Nations Cup at Sentower Park, Belgium and the Youth Nations Cup Final at Sentower Park aswell. Some of my other results in this period include placing top 7 in multiple 1.45 Longines Ranking Classes, a few wins at 2 star competitions abroad and placing 3rd in the Grade C final at the Horse Of The Year Show.

At the moment I have 5 horses that I ride internationally and 2 four year olds which will be going to the first shows soon. Two of the international horses are owned by my mum and trainer Kim Clark , here are some details about them below:

Valentino -17 year old grey gelding by Cavalier x Cathargo. In the stable he is called Rudi. He is very grumpy and he likes to bite. To ride Rudi is very laid back but sometimes a little to much and needs waking up before going in the ring.  His carefulness and clever mind has given me some of my best results to date such as placing in many Ranking classes.

Jancovica – 10year old bay mare by Thunder Van De Zuuthoeve. In the stable she is called Chip, she is very easy to do everything with and has the biggest heart for such a little horse (16hh). Although she is small she gives the best feeling jumping out of any of the horses I ride. She has had a good season so far already jumping clears in 2 Nations Cup to help the team win both of them and she jumped clear and placed in her first 1.45 Ranking class.

Outside of the horses I don’t really have that much spare time but one thing I enjoy doing is going to the gym most evenings as it helps me relax. Before I started riding full time I always wanted to be a footballer and I played for an academy up until I was 13, I also played rugby at county level but always preferred football and the riding. Although I have not played matches for a while, watching football and rugby along with many others sports still interests me.
