Our family come from a strong equestrian background - my father Joey won the Aintree Foxhunters twice and my mother, Emma, evented up to intermediate level before going on to point to point. My sister Chloe also evented up to four star before opting for a career change.
I have ridden for as long as I can remember, hunting avidly as well as being a keen member of the Belvoir Hunt Pony Club. Neelix was the horse who took me from the Pony Club Championships to my first CCI four star. Together, we won team gold at the Junior Europeans in 2008 and represented Great Britain at three consecutive Young Rider European Championships winning Team Gold and Individual Silver at Blair Castle in 2011.
Since finishing a Business Studies degree in 2012 I have focused solely on eventing and am always striving to improve – taking time to train with top riders like Dirk Schrade and Bettina Hoy.
Here are a few facts you may not know about me:
- My Secret Weapon: Without a doubt, my secret weapon is our Head Groom, Janet Willis. Janet has been working with our family since before I was even born. In 2018 her hard work and dedication was deservedly rewarded when she took home the Burghley Groom’s award and the Haddon Training Groom of the Year 2016.
- How I stay fit: Riding on average 4 horses a day tends to keep me riding fit. However, for extra stamina and energy for that competitive edge, I will try and fit in at least one strength and conditioning session a week which I am currently doing as part at Loughborough, as part of the World Class programme. I’ll also try and fit in one fitness piece of work, like a run, once a week.
- Other favourite sports: I love to ski and enjoy doing that with the whole family. To watch, it would have to be really good championship athletics.
- Things I can’t do without: An Amerigo saddle. I am very lucky that they are one of my sponsors so I have four of them. Oh, and on the food front, I love anything sweet (have always had a terribly sweet tooth) so I couldn’t cope without sweets and chocolate. I particularly love those American style cookies - the bigger, the better!
CHANCE REMARK: His stable name is Austen - he loves his grub and is really laid back at home, but really comes alive on the big occasions!
MOONLIGHT DANCES: Her stable name is Dancer - she is a real Princess. Quite the show off. Things have to be done on her terms!
