Jamie Gornall

I first began riding at the age of 14, and from that moment it became my new obsession. Previously I had played a lot of sport but found horse riding to be a completely different challenge; from that moment on it was all I wanted to do.

I grew up riding all disciplines: Dressage, Cross country, Hunting, Showjumping, Showing horses and Working Hunter. I started to specialise in Showjumping when I turned 21 and moved to Di Lampard’s yard to ride and groom full-time.

In the last 15 years I have trained with some of the best riders in the world, including Janne Friederike Meyer, John Whittaker, Marco Kutscher and Ludger Beerbaum.

On the rare occasion when I’m not riding or competing, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Averil, and my daughter, Matilda. Averil and I set up our yard, Gornall Equestrian, together in 2015.

Carsten - 14 yr old stallion who we’ve had for over two years now. He’s one of the most intelligent horses I’ve ever been fortunate enough to work with and call my friend. In the ring he’s smart, agile, careful and a real trier. At home and in the stable he spends his life trying to outsmart people and cause trouble. A very affectionate and loving horse that loves to be the man of the hour.

Christian 25 has also been my team mate for over 2 years now. This beautiful, tall, light and modern grey stallion has so much scope and athleticism with a real will to please. In The ring he can jump anything and is real blood; he’s very sensitive by nature and really wants to please. In the stable he’s a real gentleman and is everybody’s best friend. I’ve really taken my time with Christian due to his sensitivity. I wanted to form a good strong partnership with him with a view for championships and big nations cups as he finds big sport effortless and loves big arenas.

Cassionato is new to our team, having only arrived at the beginning of the year. We are still forming a relationship and getting to know one another. He feels very powerful and intelligent. I have so much respect for the natural ability, intelligence and talent of him - I truly love riding him every day and spending time getting to know such a great horse. I look forward to getting out to bigger competitions soon.

Count Codex is a very talented 9 year old stallion who we’ve had since he was 4 years old. He’s a beautiful big moving type horse with lots of scope. We’ve taken time producing him and last year he jumped his first 1m50 GP clear.

Campus is a 14yr old gelding that has been with us now for over a year. I saw him jumping with his last rider and loved his intelligence in the ring. Although he’s a bit of a nervous horse he really thrives on relationships and is a true gentleman. He has a lot of scope and really wants to jump clear rounds. He currently feels better than ever and really willing with a fighting spirit.
