Selection Policies for the Olympic and Paralympic Disciplines
Selection for British teams across the Olympic and Paralympic equestrian disciplines is governed by published selection policies. These documents set out the criteria and process by which athletes are nominated for major international competitions, providing transparency for riders, owners and support teams.
Published Policies
For the 2018 season, selection policies were made available to view and download, covering the principal championship and team formats. Among the policies published were:
- Eventing World Equestrian Games Selection Policy
- Eventing Nations Cup Selection Policy
Dressage Policy for the 2018 World Equestrian Games
At the start of the year, the dressage selection policy for the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games was in its final draft form. The draft had been circulated for feedback to riders who had expressed an interest in competing internationally during 2018, with the consultation period scheduled to close in mid-February. The final policy was due to be published once that consultation had concluded.
Publishing draft policies for athlete consultation before confirming the final version is intended to ensure that those affected by selection decisions have an opportunity to comment on the criteria in advance of competition.
